Cardiologist Married 2
It was great to see everyone at the reunion. After two years at UCSD, I transferred to UC Berkeley and graduated in Biology. Medical School at UC Irvine was followed by a residency in Internal Medicine at the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota, where I met my wife Linda on a blind date. Cardiology fellowship was at Harbor-UCLA medical center in Torrance. I have been in a group practice in Pasadena since 1988 with the largest cardiology group in Southern California. I am mostly based at Huntington Memorial Hospital. There, I am Director of the Cardiac Catherization Laboratory and have a faculty appointment at USC School of Medicine teaching medical students and residents. I spend my time doing procedures, seeing patients, teaching, with administrative duties, and a small amount of legal work. We have two children, Alison 9 and Jason 6. Alison loves dancing, swimming, music, and art. Jason likes climbing trees, building legos, and watching DVD's with his dad. We take the kids on hikes, bike rides, to the beach, and to museums and theme parks. Linda's backround is in fundraising and development. She has been involved in many projects in the community dealing with access to health care for indigent children and a library program for a home for abused kids. I try to find a little time for myself to cycle, work out, and read novels. I try for one century bike ride a year (100 miles). Between work and family, the time seems to go by pretty quick. Manager of the 911 Center Divorced
I got my B.S. in Business Management, University of Phoenix, 1998. I don't have any children of my own, but great relationships with 2 nieces, 2 nephews, one great niece and two great nephews. I love traveling. I think the farthest I’ve traveled was to Denmark to visit friends, loved the people, countryside, and historical places; lots of trips to various places in Mexico, Puerto Vallarta, La Paz, Cozumel, and the Yucatan Peninsula where I saw ancient ruins and climbed the pyramid at Chichen Itza; a 15-day cruise through the Panama Canal with stops in the Caribbean then Costa Rica, Mazatlan, Cabo San Lucas. Went to Kauai, Hawaii, it rained everyday but it was still beautiful. Spent a little time in Montreal. I’d like to see Alaska and also go to more tropical places. I’d like to go back to Europe and see more there. My greatest accomplishment? Hmmm…I’ve achieved a variety of “things”, like learning to scuba dive, earning a black belt in Tang Soo Do, flying an airplane, a good career. But getting a college degree was a significant accomplishment for me that held deep personal meaning. It was a goal I had set for myself in high school but when my life took some unplanned turns and twists in the last two years of high school and a few years afterward, my goals were set aside. So years later, getting my degree was therapeutic in a sense. It’s not a great accomplishment in the big scheme of things, but for me it was significant. My hobbies and interests:I like to snow ski and water ski. My main hobby right now is 4-wheeling in my jeep that’s built for rock crawling. Besides the many off-road areas here in San Diego and Imperial Counties, I’ve been jeeping in Moab, Utah, twice. Moab is not only great wheeling but it’s also incredibly beautiful country. I’ve done the historical Rubicon trail up by Lake Tahoe twice where we camp overnight on the trail so you have to pack all your food, supplies and gear in your jeep. Dreams/goals for the future: Make it to retirement in good enough health to enjoy it! Favorite H.S. memory: Probably the great time I had as a Lancerette during 10th grade. Who would I like to see: Lily Retana. Send Gail a MessageSend Gail a Message
