I knew Steve when we went to Mueller elementary school in the late sixties. He had the looks that all the girls would gravitate to. But his claim to fame was his ability to run with a football. I also knew he played pop warner and in high school. I don't know how we became friends but there's this one moment I will never forget going to Disneyland with the boys club in Chula Vista. We got there before the gates opened and planned to run to the Pirates of the Carribean before anyone else got there. We take off. Damn Steve was fast! But that morning I was faster. Imagine that, me running faster than Steve Gantz! Steve was just a cool dude who I looked up to just because he was a cool dude. If anyone knows how he passed away, please email me peplamadrid@gmail.com. Rest in peace Steve.

I didn't know Steve well but was very aware of him through PoP Warner Football where Steve was a legend.  Steve wasn't the biggest player on the field but one of the toughest.  I still have memories watching Steve run the ball and wishing I could run like that.  RIP you are not forgotten.

Cindy died of colon cancer.

Profile picture

Tribute

From Cindy Garwood on August 16th, 2015
Cynthia died of colon cancer which spread to her liver and / or maybe her pancreas too. I think it was about 4 1/2 years ago. She was in remission for a couple of years.

The last time she came down was for a reunion of the 76 class, she stayed over night with Phil and I.  It was right after she learned the cancer had come back. Cynthia, Linda and I drove around the old neighborhood and then to Rosebank to reminisce. She wanted to go in the ocean before she died so we went Coronado Beach and ran into the surf... We ate at an awesome Thai place in Coronado and talked for hours. A few months later Linda and I got a letter from her telling us "goodbye" the chemo hadn't worked. I called her and her husband answered. He said she was having a "hard day" but Cynthia said she wanted to talk. We had a sad but beautiful conversation. We shared memories about growing up, family and we got to say goodbye to each other . A few days later husband called me to tell us she passed. He thanked me for calling and talking with her it had lifted her spirits. For me, it was a blessing to be able tell her how much Linda and I love her, and know she was at peace . It was one of those conversations I will never forget! Her younger sister Lana also passed away very young too . She had breast cancer. I think it was in the late 90's.
